      Remarks & Notes
      Casey Jones
Unique “Casey Jones” railbus poses at Silverton, Colorado, on August 24, 2006. The contraption was designed and built by Clyde Jones and was owned by Sunnyside Mill and Mine at Eureka, Colorado. Even though “Casey Jones” operated on the Silverton Northern Railroad, it was not owned by the railroad. It was originally built as an ambulance to get injured miners more quickly to Silverton, it was also used for mine and mill employees as a way to get to town on occasions. The vehicle was built in about 1915 with a 4-wheel pilot truck and a single chain-driven rear axle. Rebuilt in 1919 after a mishap, and again in 1929 to its current configuration, “Casey Jones” can haul 12 people, including the driver. Today, the railbus is owned by the San Juan Historical Society in Silverton.
