The final westbound Rio Grande Zephyr rolls through De Beque Canyon, Colorado, within twenty miles of its terminus of Grand Junction. After arriving at Grand Junction, the train will, with the exception of a trip around the wye, remain motionless next to the station for over twenty-four hours. For the last several weeks of the Zephyr's existence, a catastrophic landslide that severed the Rio Grande main line at Thistle, Utah forced the RGZ to travel only as far west as Grand Junction, with connecting bus service to the west.
