On March 6, 2001, a southbound Union Pacific manifest freight climbing the steep grades of Tehachapi Pass has stalled at Bealville, California, with locomotive problems. No surprise, since this heavy train is powered by just two of UP’s EMD SD90MAC-H locomotives that as a class, were having their share of problems. Meeting the hapless train is a northbound BNSF freight.
