Back in May, I decided to head to Holbrook (90 miles east of Flagstaff) to photography the Apache Railway. After seeing them, I somehow ended up at the Arizona/ New Mexico border. Since I was there, I figured I head to the location of Lupton, where the red rocks, that are the face of the southwest, parallel the former Santa Fe transcon line from Los Angeles, Calif. to Chicago, Ill.
While I was there, waiting for a westbound loaded coal train, these two dogs came running up to my car. Lucky for me, these guys didn't find me as a threat; but kept an eye on me. Not soon after we got accustom to each other, 15,000 tons of Powder River, Wyo. coal shuffles down the tracks as the conductor copies down a track warrant before taking the Coronado Subdivision to the power plant.
