After bringing Amtrak’s “River Cities” in from St. Louis, F40PH No. 227 rests at the Illinois Central Gulf roundhouse at Centralia, Illinois, on a night in September 1984. The River Cities operated from Kansas City, thru St. Louis to New Orleans. It was combined with the Kansas City Mule from K.C to St. Louis, and with the City of New Orleans south to New Orleans. This rail service ended in 1993.
