The Ex-Clinchfield SD40 leading UP Train UELYAD 24 splits the endangered KCT searchlight signals at Sheffield on the UP KC Metro Sub. as UP Train KG1LAB-26 makes its way west on the KCT Sheffield Flyover.
This, and one of the SBCS on the other side of the diamond were the last remaining lights on the Kansas City Terminal Railway still sporting the "A" marker plates designating these as Absolute Signals. Such signs used to be common on railroads but this practice has diminished considerably over the past few decades, and these signals have since been replaced.
At this point the ailing SD40 leading has shut down again and was ringing bells, so the already 6 hour old crew tied the train down and put it to bed at 23rd Street and another unit was added after UP Mechanical tried to render several issues the engine was facing.
Trailing on the stack train was CSXT 967, so it was strange to get a CSX leader on a UP train, under a CSX trailing unit on another UP move.
