I&M Rail Link train 263 enters the yard in Davenport, IA while a yard job and local await to continue their work. This photo marks a turning point for me, as I used to hate having people in my photos as a die-hard roster shooter. But as 263's conductor exited the cab as the train entered the yard, the light went on, and I realized he was actually going to get down "on the fly," which I watched railroaders do all my life (and even did myself as a young railfan on cab rides) but was now deemed a way to possibly get hurt and absolutely forbidden by the Class 1 railroads at this point. Along with the classic power you see here, things such as this were drawing me more and more to shortline and regional railroad operations-- it was like a time machine back to my younger years of railfanning, and brought about a comfort to be able to now be there with better knowledge of what was going on, and better photography skills. And I haven't looked back...
