The first streamlined diesel locomotive delivered to the B&O, No. 51 set a stylistic precedent for future generations of EMC /EMD streamlined diesels. Seen here in the Museum's state of the art restoration facility during a tour, the 1937 built locomotive is undergoing a cosmetic restoration thanks to a $150,000 grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services issued in late September, 2016. The project will include research and documentation, asbestos abatement, preservation of original materials, inspection and restoration of sub-assemblies, and restoring original locomotive finishes to their original appearance. The restoration is expected to take two to three years, or rather... it'll be done when it's done! Check the Museum's web site for future tour dates.
