Just four days out of the factory, and not yet in service, Washington State Department of Transportation 1402, a Siemens SC-44 diesel-electric passenger locomotive, still has many of its cab’s controls wrapped in plastic. These locomotives are designed to meet EPA Tier IV emissions standards and have a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) – assuming the track is maintained to a high enough standard to allow it. As their new owner has not yet accepted these new locomotives, as they (WDTX 1402 and 1403) are traveling to the AAR testing facility in Colorado using Siemens' reporting mark SIIX. The cabs in these “Charger” locomotives closely resemble the Siemens ACS-64 “City Sprinter” electric passenger locomotives operated by Amtrak – right down to the console button “with a flag icon on it) that plays the Star Spangled Banner on the locomotive’s in-cab speakers.
