On a hot day in August 1983, a Chicago & North Western track crew gets a lift on a ballast regulator heading south on the Belt Line approaching Burleigh Avenue in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. A freight waiting for the track crews to clear up before it can depart Butler Yard is in the distance under a signal bridge overhead still carries C&NW’s unique semaphores. Today, a track crew would likely get to the work site in a different mode of transportation.
