A Northbound Amtrak Heading South? Completing the second half of its step-two move, Amtrak 1761 prepares to head south back to the Oxnard depot to complete its station work after being ordered by the DS to make a two-step in the siding to meet Amtrak 774. While normally a cabcar would point on the point for this move, this morning finds a P42 on the point with the private cars "Silver Splendor," "Pacific Trail" and "Overland Trail" trailing as they make their weekend jaunt up the coast as part of the Santa Barbara Vino Train. The awkward meeting at Oxnard comes following the siding at Ventura filled with Union Pacific maintenance of way equipment staged for a bridge replacement project just north of the Ventura station.
The GE Genesis series are well known for being Amtrak's locomotive. With confirmation of retirement from Amtrak themselves, their time is limited. Now is your chance to catch them before the chargers arrive!
