| This is the sight of the NS Exeter derailment on Virginia State Hwy 68 as 38 of 54 loaded cars derailed on the 3.5% grade. Hwy 68 was just reopened yesterday with the derailment occurring at 8:40pm on Saturday Nov 18, 2017 just minutes after the start of a heavy rain and wind storm. Thankfully the crew and area residents escaped injuries and the crash sight is around a half mile from any structures in any direction. A Virginia Dept of Transportation inspector is here to oversee the ongoing cleanup to keep motorists safe. |
