ATSF 5818 East, a hot 991 train, rounds a curve at Christie on the west side of Franklin Canyon. During the SP-ATSF merger era, Santa Fe painted quite a number of SD45-2s into the SPSF paint scheme. Although the merger attempt failed, the paint scheme as applied to these locomotives was quite successful.
