    Remarks & Notes
Burlington Northern manifest freight No. 144 curves along the Mississippi River at Victory, Wisconsin, on October 7, 1989. Powering the short freight is LMX B39-8 No. 8567 and GECX B39-8 No. 8000. BN leased 100 B39-8s from LMX built by GE delivered to the railroad in October and November of 1987. Originally painted in the all-gray scheme as on No. 8567, they soon received red noses and numberboard areas to increase the visibility of the locomotives. LMX Nos. 8503 and 8540 were wrecked by persons unknown during the startup of Montana Rail Link on October 31, 1987, let loose out of Livingston yard up Bozeman Pass in full throttle. Two replacement units bearing the same numbers arrived in April 1988. The wrecked units were sent back to GE for repairs and were leased back to BN, arriving as GECX Nos. 8000 and 8001, and the trailing unit of No. 144 this day is GECX No. 8000.
