    Remarks & Notes
In one of the halls of the National Museum of Scotland we find the 2nd oldest surviving locomotive in the world: the Wylam Dilly. It was built in 1815, and sister locomotive the Puffing Billy which is on display in London is the oldest. It was used on a coal hauling tramway, but due to the primitive trackage it was rebuilt almost immediately with 8 wheels. When more conventional rails were developed, it reverted to its original 0-4-0 design in 1830. Records show this odd creature operated well into the 1860s. It has been a museum piece in Edinburgh since 1883!
