A United States Army Transportation Corps train, former CN 2-6-0 No. 89, highballs west towards Lancaster, PA. Captured in a pan at 1/15th, this is actually Strasburg Rail Road's 1910 built Mogul. With a nod to the holiday weekend, Lerro Productions joined "forces" with the Strasburg Rail Road to run a special Memorial Day weekend excursion called the "Red Ball Express". It was rather quickly put together as a fundraiser for a recent barn fire at Verdant View Farm, one of the railroad's neighbors and raised nearly $11,000. The USATC was created during the War in March of 1942 and was responsible, among other things, for moving soldiers from
their training bases to the front and managing the ports of embarkation and debarkation in between. Their roster of locomotives comprised primarily of built to order 2-8-0's and 0-6-0T's, though they did purchase some used locomotives as needed, especially narrow gauge locomotives for use in Alaska. The event was meant to depict a wartime scene, though not an actual USATC locomotive.
