When I last photographed Norfolk & Western RSD12 258, I did not expect to see it again, and I certainly didn’t expect to see it in a fresh coat of N&W paint. A return visit exactly seventeen months later belied my expectations when I found the notch-nosed Alco shining in the N&W’s latest switcher paint scheme. I don’t know if it saw much, if any, service, but I have seen photos of it looking none the worse for wear as it travelled to the scrapper in early 1985.
