Very sad, one of the most spectacular railroads worldwide, the 1 meter gauge line Cha?aral - Llanta - Potrerillos, is shut down since march 2015, largely destroyed between Llanta and Cha?aral by floods. In may 2012, EMG GR12 # 93 (built in 1965 for the Ferrocarril de Potrerillos/ Codelco) and # 412 (built in 1962 ) of Ferronor, the numbers very hardly recognizable because of the dirt, are pulling a train with copper concentrates from the loading site above Llanta up to the smelter in Potrerillos. If you search for the route on Google Earth today, you will only find sad remains, large sections have been buried, washed away, built over by new roads, and so on.
