BNSF’s Cowley turn out of Greybull, Wyoming, follows the Bighorn River past steep rock walls into Sheep Canyon on the hot afternoon of June 23, 2016. Two EMD SD70MACs power the southbound train that is passing milepost 414 just south of Spence on BNSF’s Casper Subdivision. The Sheep Mountain anticline rock formations at this end of the canyon are of special interest to geologists because they are so well defined and exposed.
