The Utah Railway use to be a steady player on Soldier Summit with their coal trains out of Martin and areas around Helper. Back in 2001 we see a coal train near Kyune tackling the 2% grade. A big set of helpers are cut in also doing their best to fight gravity.
The 2 Utah Railway units here were ex-CSX SD40s the Utah leased from Morrison Knudsen for 10 years from 1991-2001. The 11 units were stored after 2001 and replaced by the MK 5000's and the SD50S. Also in consist are 2 of the MK5000's Cats the Utah tested from 10-00 til 2-01. The MPEX 9901, 9902 and the SP 503 were tested before the Utah purchased and upgraded 6 Cat units in early 2001. These Cats units left the property in 2017 for other G&W properties.
