After many trips with my dad to California, Arizona, and New Mexico to photograph the Santa Fe. We start to explore some of the more obscure sections of the trans-con main line. The Crookton line change section was one of those areas with all kind of potential but proved to be a challenge to get into. Lots of miles on rough roads. to get to locations such as Eagles Nest. I think this shot is at Crookton with an SD40-2 and SDF40-2 5263 one of the ex Amtrak units. Cowl unit always brought excitement to a train consist.
