Remarks & Notes

In the late 1980s, Rio Grande improved tunnel clearances on the Royal Gorge route over Tennessee Pass so doublestack trains could be operated. On May 24, 1991, a westbound Rio Grande stack train powered by a trio of EMD SD40T-2 “Tunnel Motors” cruises through Granite, Colorado, following the Arkansas River between the sidings of Princeton and Kobe while climbing toward Tennesee Pass.
