Remarks & Notes

At 7.15 AM, about 5 minutes before departure for the trip back home from Dresden towards Lyss/Switzerland. The former Deutsche Bundesbahn 4-6-2 express train steamlocomotive 01 # 202 of association "Pacific 01 202" in the impressive hall of Dresden main station with a 5 car train of Zermatt Rail Tours. The engineer is warming up the cylinders for the run over the Tharandter ramp with a gradient of 2.56 % towards Klingenberg-Colmnitz. The locomotive was built in 1936 by Henschel/Kassel for the Deutsche Reichsbahn and based at Dresden from 1937 to 1944. After WW II she was running for the Deutsche Bundesbahn in the western part of Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland). Withdrawn in 1975 at Hof and then sold to Werner Bühlmann in Switzerland as scrap. Fully operational and in perfect shape since 1999, based at Lyss. The locomotive ran from Switzerland to Dresden and Berlin and back about 2800 kilometers without any pusher or trailing locomotive, all by steam, with speeds up to 120 km/h.
