On a lovely Spring day, Mallet steam engine #101, built in 1906 by Blanc-Misseron (Ateliers de Construction du Nord de la France), is pulling a mixed train to Saint-Agrève on the "Velay Express", a remarkable French narrow-gauge railroad run by volunteers. As we can see on this picture, most narrow-gauge railroads in France had light rails and tracks that did not allow for speed.
