One of Texas State Railroad's prized possessions is its Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Co. 4-6-2 No. 1316. This is the original running gear of that locomotive, built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, in Philadelphia, in 1911. The locomotive was donated to the Fort Concho Foundation at San Angelo, TX in 1954 and later purchased in 1980 to the TSRR. The Railroad restored her to operation in 1982, painted her green with silver smoke box and numbered her 500. I believe the locomotive ran at least up until 1996 before being sidelined. During the rebuild, the railroad elected to have a new boiler manufactured and removed the original boiler, seen here. Unfortunately, it did not meet expectations required for reassembly. They still hope to have her back in operation, but it may be some time (and money!).
