    Remarks & Notes
Sitting in BNSF Railway's B yard in San Bernardino on December 17, 2017, is a former Santa Fe Ce-11 class wide-vision caboose. These "way cars" (as Santa Fe called them) was built by International Car Company in 1981. When cabooses became obsolete, many were converted to "Shove Platforms," including ATSF 999761. Windows and doors were welded shut to reduce maintenance, and these cars became a tool for crews to use when making a long reverse move, as they provide the conductor a place to stand more safely than hanging on a freight car's ladder. Look carefully behind the grafitti and you can see a BNSF logo that was applied at one time, even though this car retains its old "ATSF" reporting mark. Photographed on railroad property with permission and full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
