    Remarks & Notes
Keller Yard is a small facility directly opposite of Los Angeles Union Station - trains coming north along the Los Angeles River have to make a U-turn just north of here in order to get into Union Station. Keller has become the spot where Metrolink works on their EMD F125 locomotives, which seem to take a lot of work to make operable. On April 22, 2019, Metrolink's only F40PH, number 800 (the former Amtrak 396), is coupled to six F125s that are not yet ready to hit the road. A few days before, these engines were getting replacement dynamic brakes, as the originals seem to have issues with rain. Coupled behind F40PH 800 (known to Metrolink crews as the "tow truck" as it is their most dependable locomotive and is often called upon to come to the rescue when other diesels fail) are F125s 929, 921, 920, 926, 927 and 92? (unfortunately, I wasn't able to make out the roadnumber from this distance).

Meanwhile, two tracks over, are the two F125s that were involved in a BNSF freight train's derailment at Devore, at the base of Cajon Pass, on August 21, 2018. These two engines were in that train, being ferried to Los Angeles and each derailed. SCAX 928, with the orange rear door showing, fared better than engine 931, which was covered in a tarp for months in BNSF's B Yard in San Bernardino to hide the damage it sustained. SCAX 931 is getting some new paint applied (look carefully, and you can see the yellow masking tape) here at Keller.

The building on the right, with the helicopter on the roof, is the Los Angeles Police Department's Air Support Division. While waiting for trains here, one can kill time watching the LAPD choppers taking off and landing with some regularity.
