        Remarks & Notes
2001 miles from its origination city (New Orleans, Louisiana) Amtrak train 1, the westbound tri-weekly Sunset Limited, makes its next-to-last station stop before arriving in Los Angeles. Due into Pomona, California, at 6:15 am, this train must be about on time based upon the fact that the sun has not yet risen above the eastern horizon on the May 14, 1982 morning. GE P40CH 714 and EMD F40PH 241, pulling five former Santa Fe Hi-Level cars (converted from steam heat usage) and five Superliners, have just 21 miles to go before the trip is completed in L.A. Note that the engineer is wearing a dress shirt and tie!
