    Remarks & Notes
It is nearing 1:45 pm, at which time Northwestern Pacific train 4, the northbound Redwood, will depart Willits, California, to head for Eureka, some 144 miles ahead. The train, consisting of the Southern Pacific’s only Budd RDC, SP-10) will pass through virgin forests of Coastal Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens), following the Eel River much of the way. This train will have 3 scheduled stops, but 18 flag stops en route. Train 4 will arrive in Eureka at 7:00 pm – Not the fastest train, but the spectacular scenery make the trip worthwhile. The southbound Redwood, train 3, returns to Willits the next day, as both trains are tri-weekly. (January 1971)
