Southern Pacific’s Buena Park Local, having picked up a cut of cars (40’ box cars!), departs Buena Park, California, in April 1973. A trio of GP9s, of which SP owned over 300, are up front – SP 3665 (ex-SP 5802), 3707 (ex-5844) and 3542 (ex-5710). Lead engine 3665, built by EMD in March 1959, will get rebuilt in two years, emerging from the railroad’s Sacramento Shops as SP GP9R 3818.
