      Remarks & Notes
On May 23, 1990, Santa Fe Railway’s first two GP60Ms made their first trip eastward out of Los Angeles, having arrived in California for the first time the day before. ATSF 100 and 101 were still shiny after their trip from Chicago, and in-between them were two of the railway’s recently repainted FP45s, 96 and 92, wearing their still fairly new Superfleet paint, which inspired the Santa Fe to order all new power in the same bright red and silver paint scheme. As a result, the Santa Fe was the railroad to photograph in the first half of the 1990s! Train 2-891-23, with a hot load of high-priority piggyback trailers, is seen departing Barstow, California, following the first crew change on its journey from Los Angeles to Chicago. Note the test car immediately behind the power, evaluating these new EMDs GPs. (EMD’s GP60M was a model that was unique to the Santa Fe.)
