| 1102 was built by English Electric 1966 and bought by Diesel Traction Group in 1989. Finally, after years of restoration work, the return to mainline was marked by a series of railfan specials with 772, starting with a run up to Arthurs Pass in the Southern Alps. Just ahead is Otira tunnel 5.5 miles long on 3% grade now worked by lash ups of modified GE U26C helpers. |
