| Bowes Railway is the only cable operated standard gauge railway in the world and used to demonstrate how wagons were hauled by stationary engines up and down the inclines that start at this site. Today it is having difficulty surviving as there are few volunteers and operating days are virtually non-existant. Back in happier times, No 22 runs back to the site with a train of Bowes railway wagons in tow as the sun begins to set over Gateshead. |
