A westbound Santa Fe freight sprints through Helendale, California, on a windy February 29, 1988. The first two units in the consist—EMD SD45-2 No. 5800 and an SD45—are still dressed in the Southern Pacific Santa Fe’s ill-fated “Kodachrome” merger paint scheme.
