The faint roar of giant diesel engines gain in decibels as they approach the summit of Sand Patch Grade, down to their hands and knees clawing at the icy snow covered rail only to manage 4 tenths of a mile per hour. The overhead ghost of the Western Maryland taunts the ex B&O during a brutal snowstorm at the end of January.
