The locomotive pictured here is V&T #29, a 2-8-0 Consolidation type which is not original to the V&T Railway, but certainly does have a very similar silhouette profile to the V&T #26 & 27, the last two locomotives that were purchased by the original railroad, both of which were 4-6-0 ten-wheelers. In this image, the train is crossing the high fill at the Overman Pit (MP 49.4), a large open pit mine which was dug after the original V&T Virginia City line had been removed back in 1941. Although most would consider an open pit mine to be an eye-sore, it actually photographs quite well during the day. It also turns out to be a kick-ass location from which to photograph trains at sunrise.
