One of my all time favorite locomotives - this time, a less often shared view of the fireman's side, thanks to a vacant track to the right left by the Museum's B&O EA #51, an EMC built shovel-nosed diesel which was moved to the far left track after its cosmetic restoration. No. 490 was built by ALCO in 1926 as a Pacific. The C&O rebuilt this engine as a streamlined Hudson in 1946 for "Chessie" service, initially painting it in a shade of orange before updating to the look with the current shade of yellow. The C&O had high hopes for the future of passenger business and No. 490 was to blaze the path. Click here for a photo taken from the engineer's side.
