Its 3 car consist of Mafersa Coaches are ex-Virigina Railway Express, part of a unique order of 38 cars that were sold by VRE when it purchased Sumitomo / Nippon Sharyo Galley Cars. This portion of the Northeast Corridor Line was electrified in 2000 for Amtrak Acela and Regional trains. Continued work to cover all tracks is ongoing, and as more Kawasaki built M8s arrive there continues to be discussion about whether these diesel sets will see their role in SLE service reduced in the future.
