When UP and MP merged, a decision was made to pull most through traffic off the former MP line to Pueblo. That reduction was offset by Rio Grande (and later SP) trains running on rights between Pueblo and KC granted as a condition of the merger. It was fun while it lasted, but after UP and SP joined, the line was mostly pieced out to shortlines or abandoned. In happier times, Rio Grande GPs bookended NS and BN SD40-2s on an eastbound.
