The Reading and Northern’s corporate roots are the Blue Mountain & Reading, a 13-mile short line connecting Hamburg with a connection with Conrail at Temple, Pennsylvania. Later developing an excursion business, the BM&R started as a freight carrier with two CF7’s and an NW2. Eleven months after the road’s inception, NW2 413 is seen on a work train in South Hamburg.
