As part of the Shatin to Central Link project, MTR introduced new East Rail Line trains built by Hyundai Rotem in Korea. These 9-car trains operate with the new signaling system, which encountered several faults and delays in functioning. In Feb 2021, six years after the delivery of the first train, the trains have begun service and replace the existing fleet.
