Santa Fe Lives On. AMTK 510, a General Electric (GE) B32-8BWH built in 1991 soaks up the late evening light across from the newly restored turntable here at Amtrak's Redondo Junction locomotive facility. Originally built in the 1910's as an 85-foot turntable, the table was extended to 120-foot long in the 1920's to accommodate the increasing sizes of steam engines on the Santa Fe. After passenger operations were handed to Amtrak in 1971, the Santa Fe sold the property to Amtrak who has continued to use the turntable as part of its daily operations to this day. In early 2020, a million dollar project began to upgrade and restore the turntable, with one of the "icing on the cake" parts of the project seen here - the return of the original, Santa Fe "Get The Safety Habity" logo to the table, which it wore while in service for the Santa Fe.
