The Last Interurban: In a scene unique to the Iowa Traction Railway, the setting sun highlights the maze of poles and overhead trolley wire in the Emery yard, as IATR 54, the railroads newest motor, built in 1923, stands by for the weekend. Incorporated as the Mason City & Clear Lake Railroad in 1897, the Iowa Traction is now the last common carrier electric interurban operating in the US. Almost all of the original route is still in place (about 11 miles), but only about 4 miles is in service currently.
