For a city with the reputation of being a flat slab of concrete, Los Angeles is surprisingly hilly and green to those who are unfamiliar with it. Sure, the Los Angeles River, as seen here, is a concrete drainage funnel, but much of it has now been restored to its former wilderness look, and more sections are scheduled for revamping as well. And in bone-dry southern California, there is even talk about not letting all the rainwater drain into the Pacific, but rather trying to retain it. Oh, hang on … you came here for the train! (**Clears throat**). Running along the west bank of the LA River is Metrolink train 751, about to complete its journey from Perris (which has a very nice railroad museum!) to Los Angeles. This trackage is Metrolink’s River Sub, West Bank Line, which was built by the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. LA’s Union Station is just the left, and train 751, with SCAX F125 917 shoving on the rear, will make what is essentially a U-turn by the bridge over the river and head into LAUS, which is to the photographer’s left.
