Long Hood Work Horse: Due to a lack of cab car availability for NJT 5416 on this day, work engine NJT 4300 is acting in place of one. Running long hood forward in passenger operation is no problem for the engineer, Frank “Jethro” Strunk. Originally hired for the Central Railroad of New Jersey 53 years prior, he would ultimately retire a few months after this photo was taken on July 20, 2021. NJT 4531 (ALP45DP) is on the rear.
