The KCS Speedway around Vicksburg is a pretty cool piece of railroad. The railroad crosses the massive 1928 Mississippi River Bridge that's over 8,500 feet long. The railroad then twist and turns up a 1.2% grade thru a few tunnel type structures on the way east. Here we have the UP run thru Z-train from Los Angles to Atlanta that KCS handles between Shreveport and Meridian. The train slowly pokes along at 10 mph across the bridge. Around the curve, this train will take the siding for a massive 12,000 foot MARSH coming west. Takes trains a long time to work thru here as they pass from Louisiana into Mississippi as they cross the river. This bridge took highway 80 across the river til 1998 when it was closed due to its age.
