Now arriving at Ironstone. With the April sun sinking low in the western sky, the 2022 re-enactment of President Abraham Lincoln's Funeral Train pulls into the station platform know as "Ironstone", the current eastern terminus of the Harrisburg, Lincoln & Lancaster. Currently, two of these station shelters exist on the line. The other, known as "Belmont", is located just west of the Herr's Mill Covered Bridge. Eventually, at least one more station will be built, when the line is extended up to the vicinity of the Star Barn.
The road bed on which this train is rolling is original Pennsylvania Railroad right-of-way, which existed in the 1838 and was part of the route traveled by President Lincoln's Funeral Train as it traveled from Harrisburg to Philadelphia, PA on April 22 of 1865. The original track was removed in the 20th century after the line fell into disuse. Just over a half mile of it has been reconstructed, all of which is on the original ROW. Eventually, the track layout will be enlarged to over 2 miles, as the railroad grows to serve the multiple event venues on the Stone Gables Estate property.
