A trio of GE's lead a Union Pacific manifest freight as it crosses over the Mississippi River and begins its journey out of Saint Paul, Minnesota. After holding on the east side of the river to allow boat traffic to pass, the train is now rolling across Mississippi River Bridge No. 15, a 1915 built span that was constructed by the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway, though the line was jointly owned by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway and both are represented in the concrete casting. The swing span of this bridge is unique in its asymmetrical design, using a concrete counterweight to maintain balance over the bridge's pivot point. This design was required to allow boat traffic to utilize the deepest point over the river to navigate.
