Crossing Thomas Creek. Residents of the tiny town of West Scio, OR stop to catch up with each other on the highway just north of the historic Gilkey Covered Bridge, as Santa Maria Valley Railroad Locomotive #205 charges north over Thomas Creek, hauling a couple of loads of heavy timber destined for the lumber yards at Mill City, some 20 miles to the east.

Note the smoke ring soaring above the exhaust plume. This locomotive seemed to produce them quite frequently during this entire trip.
