The Bonnet Carré Spillway is a flood control operation in the Lower Mississippi Valley, located in St. Charles Parish, LA. The spillway allows floodwaters from the Mississippi River to flow into Lake Pontchartrain as flood control. The spillway was constructed between 1929 and 1931, following the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Today CN and KCS have massive wood bridges across this vast area. Here an empty grain train out of Reserve, LA, bound for the Iowa Northern Railroad in Waterloo, IA, rolls over the 1.3 mile long bridge as they make their way east on the Baton Rouge Sub.
